About Overweight and Obesity

Obesity is becoming one of the fastest growing health problems in central Indiana. In Marion County, 25.6% of the population is obese and 60% is overweight.  As a state, Indiana has 27.5% of the population classified as obese which ranks 11th nationally.  The rest of the country is also facing an overweight and obesity increase. Nationally, more than one in three adults are obese and over 16% of children and adolescents are obese.  The CDC reports that obesity increases the risks for many health conditions including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, arthritis, and some cancers. Obesity can be decreased with a healthy diet and exercise.
