Ambient air pollution affects everyone and has been linked to a variety of chronic and acute health conditions such as asthma. Air pollution constituents and their effect on health outcomes have been studied extensively. The contribution of air pollution to ill health occurs at both the local and global level. Sources of air pollution are widespread and include use of aerosols, motor vehicle emissions, agricultural dust, and smog from factories. The goal of protecting the public from ambient air pollution intertwines control of regional air pollution with public health policies and individual behavioral decisions.
