Obese Adults (%) - 2007

Title: Percent of Adults Who are Obese

Category: Overweight & Obesity

Additional Categories

Target: CDC's National Healthy People 2010 developed an objective aimed at increasing the proportion of adults who are at a healthy weight, and reducing the percentage of adults who are obese to 15% of the population.

What it signifies: Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States, and it also poses a large economic burden due to medical costs and loss of productivity. Obese individuals have higher risks of developing many medical conditions, including arthritis, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and several types of cancer. Reducing obesity in a community can improve that community’s overall physical and economic well-being.
