Target: CDC's National Healthy People 2010 proposed a population based target of 50% of adults aged 50 years and older who receive a blood stool test.

What it signifies: The blood stool test, also known as the Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) is one method of screening for colorectal (colon) cancer. If blood is found in the stool, individuals are typically referred for further testing, including colonoscopy. Screening for colorectal cancer can detect precancerous growths and early stages of cancer. Identifying the condition early can make treatment more successful. Persons aged 50 and older are recommended to receive regular screening.
